The three pieces break down as follows: seat with controller at 37 lbs, front chassis with batteries at 27 lbs, and rear chassis with drivetrain at 29 lbs. No tools, no connectors to manage — the chair comes apart and reassembles in seconds.
The Smartie runs on Shoprider's proprietary Envirofriendly phosphate-based lithium-ion battery system — a non-lead-acid design that charges fully in approximately 85 minutes and delivers up to 10 miles of range per charge at a top speed of 3.75 mph. Each battery weighs just 7 lbs. The phosphate-base chemistry provides an extended battery cycle life compared to standard SLA batteries, requiring minimal maintenance across the battery's lifespan. Charging is handled by a 2A off-board charger, so the battery can be charged without moving the chair.
Airline travel with the Smartie requires using the original manufacturer battery only. Non-original batteries may not meet airline requirements. Always confirm battery regulations with your specific airline before travel.
Rear-Wheel Drive Performance
The Smartie's rear-wheel drive system runs on 8-inch rear tires and 6-inch front casters, providing stable traction across indoor flooring, sidewalks, packed grass, and mildly uneven outdoor surfaces. Ground clearance sits at 2 inches, and the maximum safe incline rating is 6 degrees. Anti-tip wheels at the rear maintain balance on slopes and uneven terrain. The chair's compact turning radius makes it practical in tight indoor spaces including hallways, doorways, and store aisles.
Full-Function Adjustable Seating
Every seating component on the Smartie adjusts independently. The padded seat adjusts in height. Armrests adjust in width, height, and angle. The removable fold-up footrest adjusts in height, length, and angle. A safety belt is included for additional security. This level of adjustability across three independent components allows the chair to be configured to a wide range of body proportions without requiring aftermarket accessories.
